Frequently Asked Questions

Is Estate Assist a law firm or legal service?

No. Estate Assist is a technology tool that helps organize estate paperwork. It does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice. We recommend consulting with a licensed attorney or financial advisor for complex estate matters.

What documents should I upload?

Any financial documents related to the deceased — bank statements, life insurance policies, brokerage or 401(k) statements, Social Security letters, mortgage documents, and employer benefits information. The more you upload, the more complete your action plan will be.

How is my data handled?

When you upload a document, text is extracted and sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to identify accounts, institutions, and key details. No document contents are permanently stored or used to train AI models. Your session data is held on the server during your active session and can be cleared at any time from Settings. We do not sell or share your information.

Do I need to be the executor to use this?

No. Anyone helping with estate administration — a surviving spouse, adult child, or trusted friend — can use Estate Assist to organize paperwork and identify next steps.

What states do you support?

Estate Assist provides death certificate guidance and filing information for all 50 U.S. states, Washington D.C., and U.S. territories. The action plan and letter features work regardless of state.

Is it really free to start?

Yes. The Free tier gives you document analysis and an action plan with up to 3 tasks at no cost. The Essential ($49) and Complete ($149) tiers unlock unlimited tasks, letter drafting, and more. During early access, all features are available for free so you can try everything.
